Our Approach
Under this $8M IDIQ contract, Straughan provided support for environmental compliance, management, conservation, and sustainability programs at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC). Straughan’s objective was to ensure all LaRC operations, programs, and activities complied with the LaRC Environmental Policy: to protect and enhance the quality of the environment through compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory authorities; Executive Orders; and NASA and LaRC policies and directives.
Straughan’s support included all program areas managed by the LaRC Environmental Branch, which consisted of Environmental Management System and Sustainability; Project/Program Planning and NEPA; Recycling; Sustainable Acquisition; Waste Management, Laboratory Support; Air Quality; Water Quality; ASTs/USTs; Cultural Resources Management; Energy and Water Conservation; Remediation Services; Hazardous Materials Management and Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) Reporting; Training and Outreach; and Inspections/Auditing.
With Straughan’s environmental support, LaRC received numerous citations and awards including the Tree City USA certification, 2017 NASA Blue Marble Award for the Stormwater Program, Virginia Environmental Excellence Program (VEEP) Sustainability Partners citation, 2015 Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award Honorable Mention for the “Revitalization through Sustainability” program, and the 2014 NASA Blue Marble Award for Setting the Benchmark for Integrated Cultural Resource and NEPA Program Management.
