We conduct research and partner with research organizations to develop new design and management solutions that address environmental challenges.

From Research to Implementation
Straughan partners with government agencies, universities, and non-profit organizations to explore emerging environmental challenges. We are experts at translating research into practical project implementation. Our work integrates engineering, science, planning, and data analysis to evaluate new approaches to climate resilience, watershed management, and ecosystem restoration. We utilize AI technology, modeling tools, data management, and our hands-on project delivery experience to reduce costs and timelines.
Our research partners include the University of Maryland, the University of Delaware, Johns Hopkins University, and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. In addition to project and grant partnerships, Straughan Subject Matter Experts have taught courses and provided guest lectures on topics such as resiliency planning, geographic information systems, wetlands science, and environmental engineering.
Strategies for Success
Examples of our work are included below. We believe environmental challenges can solved through research, innovation, and testing creative solutions.

Developing innovative solutions for water management and resiliency.
Straughan conducts applied studies that support resilience planning, watershed modeling, blue-green infrastructure strategies, and evaluation of emerging tools and technologies.

Translating science, policy, and field experience into implementable standards.
We develop technical manuals, regulatory guidance, and decision-support frameworks that improve consistency in environmental review, design, and implementation.

Bridging academic research and real-world implementation.
Straughan collaborates with institutions to advance research related to climate resilience, water infrastructure vulnerability, and nature-based solutions.

Identifying and obtaining funding.
Straughan assists agencies and organizations in identifying funding opportunities and developing competitive grant applications through technical documentation, concept development, feasibility evaluation, and supporting analyses.
