Our Approach
Straughan Environmental led the development of the Columbia Association Natural Resources Stewardship Plan (NRSP) by providing technical expertise and strategic guidance to create a comprehensive framework for managing Columbia’s natural resources. Our team was responsible for assessing existing conditions, identifying ecological priorities, and developing actionable recommendations that balanced environmental stewardship with community needs. We provided specialized knowledge in sustainability, habitat restoration, community engagement, and resource management to ensure that the plan reflects best practices, recognizes community priorities, and supports Columbia Association’s long-term vision for its open space system.
In addition to technical planning, Straughan managed all aspects of community engagement to ensure that residents and stakeholders had meaningful opportunities to contribute to the NRSP. We designed and facilitated public meetings, developed digital outreach tools, and coordinated with key stakeholder groups to gather input on priorities and concerns. Received feedback was integrated with scientific analysis to produce ranked recommendations based on ecological impact, feasibility, cost, and community value. Through this collaborative approach, Straughan delivered a plan that is both technically sound and deeply informed by the values of the Columbia community.
