Our Approach

Straughan successfully served as sustainability consultant to achieve LEED Silver certification. Straughan led the design-build project team to first develop sustainability project goals based on the owner’s larger project goals and regulatory requirements. Goals were then broken down into measurable performance targets to meet LEED criteria and credits. Goals and targets were set for site, water, energy, emissions, waste, and materials to meet and document the criteria for both Federal Guiding Principles and LEED requirements. We worked with the design-build architect to develop a LEED Action Plan as a framework to inform design during both design and construction.

At the end of the project, Straughan submitted, on behalf of the design-build design team, a final LEED Notebook worthy of submission to the Green Building Certification Institute. The project’s LEED documentation was submitted to USACE for self-certification while reserving the right to submit for third party certification in 2019. We effectively directed the team and met the Owner’s goals for a sustainable building project, while working within the contractor’s requirements to successfully achieve an innovative building.
