Our Approach
Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) is undertaking a critical two-phase remediation project to address arsenic contamination at its Riverside property. Straughan is playing a key role in the first phase, which involves the removal of sub-grade vaults and impacted soil across a 15.75-acre site, including wetlands and Chesapeake Bay Critical Area buffers. This complex project requires extensive pre-planning, permitting, and environmental compliance to ensure safe and effective remediation.
Straughan’s expertise in natural and water resources is integral to navigating the substantial permitting requirements. Our team is conducting a Natural Resources Inventory, verifying wetland delineations, assessing critical area and forest buffers, and coordinating with agencies such as MDE, USACE, and Baltimore County DEPS. We are preparing erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management documentation, and environmental impact reviews, while proposing innovative measures like turbidity curtains, reef ball breakwaters, and stabilized construction entrances to minimize environmental impacts.
By combining technical precision with strategic collaboration, Straughan is helping BGE achieve regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship. From field investigations to permitting applications and construction-phase inspections, Straughan’s work ensures the project progresses efficiently while protecting sensitive natural resources and supporting the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area’s sustainability goals.
