Our Approach

Straughan has played a pivotal role in revitalizing the wetland ecosystems at Masonville Cove in Baltimore, MD for the Maryland Port Administration. Over the course of a year, our team was instrumental in the careful development and supervision of the planting of 0.87 acres with a variety of native vegetation. This included 0.61 acres of Critical Area tree mitigation plantings, 0.24 acres of nontidal wetland trees and shrubs, and plans for 0.06 acres of emergent wetland plants to be added in Spring 2024.

The project’s meticulous execution involved close collaboration with subcontractors and regular site inspections to ensure plant health and correct installation according to the environmental guidelines. Particular attention was given to conducting these operations during the bald eagle nesting season, necessitating coordination with wildlife services and an eagle spotter on-site to monitor and protect the local eagle population.

This initiative not only supports the Maryland Port Administration’s commitment to environmental stewardship but also demonstrates Straughan’s expertise in managing complex ecological restoration projects that comply with stringent environmental regulations.
