Our Approach
Straughan Environmental is leading the development of the Columbia Association Natural Resources Management Plan (NRMP) by providing technical expertise and strategic guidance to create a comprehensive framework for managing Columbia’s natural resources. Our team is responsible for assessing existing conditions, identifying ecological priorities, and developing actionable recommendations that balance environmental stewardship with community needs. We bring specialized knowledge in sustainability, habitat restoration, community engagement, and resource management to ensure that the plan reflects best practices, recognizes community priorities, and supports Columbia Association’s long-term vision for its open space system.
In addition to technical planning, Straughan is managing all aspects of community engagement to ensure that residents and stakeholders have meaningful opportunities to contribute to the NRMP. We designed and facilitated public meetings, developed digital outreach tools, and coordinated with key stakeholder groups to gather input on priorities and concerns. This feedback is being integrated with scientific analysis to produce ranked recommendations based on ecological impact, feasibility, cost, and community value. Through this collaborative approach, Straughan is delivering a plan that is both technically sound and deeply informed by the values of the Columbia community.
