Straughan is currently seeking an Environmental Science Technician IV in Greenbelt, MD.

Description of the Position:
Support a range of activities related to water quality management, hazardous waste management, oil operation and storage tank management, and release response, as part of a team providing a full range of environmental compliance support activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilizes technical knowledge and experience to assist in ensuring compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and permits. Under minimal supervision, collects samples of stormwater, wastewater, oil, soil, and wastes for analyses; conduct programmatic inspections; collect and maintain data; respond to and cleanup chemical spills; manage inventory, supplies, and preventive maintenance and repair of equipment; and provide support to other environmental program areas as assigned. Be flexible and work across a wide range of environmental media.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent, plus 10 years of experience in environmental programs, facility management, or other relevant technical areas; OR
- Associate’s degree in a relevant discipline plus 8 years of experience; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline plus 2 years of experience
- 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training
- Certification by a recognized accrediting body may substitute for an additional 1 year of experience.

Qualifications (Required)
The following qualifications are required:
- A minimum of 7 years of experience.
- Construction management and inspection experience for environmental compliance.
- Expertise in erosion and sediment control practices.
- Expertise in environmental regulations, permitting, and policy.
- Experience preparing permit applications, permit modifications, and coordinating the approval of infrastructure projects.
- Expertise in wetland, stream, and forest assessments.
- Working knowledge of MS Office computer software (world/excel/outlook).
- Well developed interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
- Ability to create effective written reports and documentation.
- Ability to manage work to a defined work plan and budget.
- Experience as a project lead for multiple projects. Responsible for ensuring that quality, timely completion, client satisfaction, and financial performance objectives are met for his/her projects.
Qualifications (Preferred)
The following qualifications are preferred:

Archeological Field Technician
Description

Straughan is currently seeking on call archaeological field technicians, local to the Baltimore/Washington region, to join our Sustainable Design Team for work on primarily local projects.
Responsibilities will include completion of Phase I, II, and III archeological fieldwork, and may also include report documentation tasks.
Desirable candidates will have experience conducting pedestrian and sub-surface surveys in the mid-Atlantic and will be familiar with prehistoric and historic archeological resources commonly found in the Mid-Atlantic.
Field technicians will need to be able to carry field equipment, perform shovel test pits, and maintain accurate records of shovel test pits, excavation units and other survey conditions.
Work performed outside will be performed in variable weather conditions and may entail long days. This is an entry level position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 1-5 years of experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, Archeology or related field.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Completion of an archeological field school within the Mid-Atlantic.
- Well-developed interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Familiarity with cultural resource regulations and policy.
- Experience using Trimble GPS, Total Station, and GIS.
