Ms. Gutierrez is a Deputy Director of Sustainability Design and Project Manager for Straughan. She manages sustainable design projects, leads in-house sustainability efforts, manages Straughan’s green key performance indicators, and leads the Straughan Green Team. Ms. Gutierrez has been the LEED/sustainability consultant on more than 75 LEED, Green Globes, Enterprise Green Communities and Sustainable Site Initiative (SITES) projects. She is an expert in applying sustainability frameworks to achieve client goals, whether it is a green building or a methodology for a new process that results in carbon trading. Diana is an active member of Women in Commercial Real Estate (CREW Baltimore), U.S. Green Building Council Maryland (USGBC MD), USGBC National Capital Region (USGBC NCR), and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Maryland Section. Diana has served as Vice Chair for U.S. Green Building Council, Maryland and committee chair of the MD Community Schools Committee focused on greening schools and their schoolyards. She spearheaded a longtime partnership between USGBC MD and a Baltimore City School, now in its 7th year. Diana developed a full day seminar to bridge the gap for civil engineers and sustainability – Engineering Green, which took place for 7 years as a partnership between USGBC MD and ASCE MD Section. Diana occasionally speaks regionally about topics in green building and sustainability. She has published an article about green building in the Society of Military Engineers monthly magazine and other web-based shorter pieces. She was awarded a 2016 Green Leader award from the U.S. Green Building Council for her leadership in advancing the mission of the Maryland chapter. In 2016 she received one of five national volunteer awards from the U.S. Green Building Council for her work promoting and building a team to create an outdoor Living Classroom at a Baltimore City Public School. When she’s not working, she enjoys sailing, biking, canoeing, and hiking with her family and friends, as well as volunteering in her community in support of sustainability initiatives. Tell us about your most exciting or rewarding project at Straughan.
I’ve provided project management, technical expertise, and leadership to develop a methodology for an asphalt road construction process that reduced GHG emissions and is a Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). We are now working on generating and selling carbon credits from this process on the voluntary carbon market!
When you are not working, what do you enjoy doing?
I love traveling and getting outside to hike, bike, and get out on the water. I’m an avid gardener and enjoy growing as much food for my family as possible.
