Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant supports the Senior Staff Accountant by assisting with financial reporting, maintaining fixed assets, reviewing and processing accounts payable, accounts receivable collections, review and entry of payroll, external industry reporting, and miscellaneous internal reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and entry of accounts payable vouchers
  • Assist Senior Staff Accountant with monthly review and preparation of balance sheet and income statement
  • Maintain company fixed assets – asset tagging, periodic inventory, maintaining purchase documentation, track use/return of loaned company assets
  • Assist Senior Staff Accountant in preparing for management meetings: scheduling, agenda preparation, project analysis, follow-up on action items identified in the meeting
  • Assist Senior Staff Accountant in responding to internal employee requires for financial information relevant to contracts
  • Enter and maintain project budgets into the company’s project accounting system
  • Assist Senior Staff Accountant and Auditors during external audits

The successful candidate must have 3 years of experience in horticulture, pesticide application, vegetation management, turf management, and supervision of construction and landscape installations.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of plant biology, plant identification, landscape design and common insect and diseases disorders of trees and ornamental plants.
  • Knowledge of landscape plan interpretation as it relates to landscape design.
  • Knowledge of Maryland Department of Transportation | State Highway Administration landscape installation and maintenance contract specifications, schedules and special requirements.

Archeological Field Technician

Description

Straughan is currently seeking on call archaeological field technicians, local to the Baltimore/Washington region, to join our Sustainable Design Team for work on primarily local projects.

Responsibilities will include completion of Phase I, II, and III archeological fieldwork, and may also include report documentation tasks.

Desirable candidates will have experience conducting pedestrian and sub-surface surveys in the mid-Atlantic and will be familiar with prehistoric and historic archeological resources commonly found in the Mid-Atlantic.

Field technicians will need to be able to carry field equipment, perform shovel test pits, and maintain accurate records of shovel test pits, excavation units and other survey conditions.

Work performed outside will be performed in variable weather conditions and may entail long days.  This is an entry level position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1-5 years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, Archeology or related field.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Completion of an archeological field school within the Mid-Atlantic.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
