SES is currently seeking an Engineering Intern for our Environmental Design Group.

SES is currently seeking a proactive, high energy intern to join our Environmental Design Group.  It is expected that they would be working primarily with Professional Engineers on projects for stream restoration, fish passage analysis, stormwater management design, drainage design, erosion and sediment control design, traffic noise analysis, LEED Certification and Sustainability Plans.  They may also have the opportunity to work with our Planning group or with Environmental Scientists in our Natural Resources division as well.
The following is required for a successful candidate.  They should at a minimum have met the following:

  • A registered student at a university majoring in either Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering
  • Completed all sophomore level engineering coursework
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability and eagerness to perform field work such as wetland and stream delineations, geomorphic assessments, and traffic noise data collection.

The following experience is preferred, but not required:

  • Microstation
  • AutoCAD
  • Geopak
  • ArcGIS
  • Relevant experience

There is an expectation that the candidate would be available to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.  A set work schedule is preferred.  However, there may be some schedule flexibility allowed and needed by SES depending on project schedules.

This is an opportunity for the Fall, 2010 semester.  There may be an opportunity for an extension of the internship depending on the performance of the candidate and the current project workload.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

SES is currently seeking a NEPA Project Manager to join our Planning Team.

SES is currently seeking a dynamic, NEPA-experienced Project Manager to join our Planning Team. Requirements A successful candidate should be an experienced planner able to perform a variety of mid-level professional duties related to demographic, socio-economic and land use analysis. Must have experience in preparing CEQ/NEPA documents for state and federal clients. Typical project will include:

  • socioeconomic studies
  • indirect and cumulative effects evaluations
  • environmental justice analysis
  • public involvement programs
  • air quality and noise studies
  • 4(f) impact evaluations
  • community planning
  • greenway, open space, trail, heritage resource planning
  • and more depending on your particular interests
Candidates must possess strong analytical skills as well as good organizational, oral and written communication skills, especially the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences. Strong self-motivation and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, environmentally conscious, team environment are also necessary.

Practical experience using statistical, spreadsheet and database management software is essential. Experience using ArcGIS and other computer-based mapping and analytical tools are highly desirable.

At a minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Public Administration, Transportation, Urban Studies, or a related field, plus three or more years of relevant experience. A Master’s Degree may be substituted for one year of relevant experience. AICP or eligibility is desirable. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.


For all positions, the ability to assist in the company’s other service areas, including National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation, natural and socioeconomic resource planning, and/or environmental design services is desirable.
